Furniture Education
Furniture and Bedding is a major investment for anyone's residence.  Our Comfort 101 page will give our customers confidence they are making the right decision to.  Making the right desicion is easier when you are informed by professionals.

 Mattress Comfort Scale

Our 10 Point Comfort Scale is Easy To Use!!

Our Comfort Scale is based on a  10 point scale from 1 to 10. It is important to understand that the level of comfort of a mattress has nothing to do with the actual support your back receives from the innerspring coil system.

Comfort Scale Rating of 1
A mattress with a rating of 1 would provide proper support for your back and give you the feeling of sleeping on your living room's carpeted floor. A rating of 1 does not really exist in bedding today. We have it at the base of our Comfort Scale for a reference point. It is very possible with the continuously increasing mattress technology in the industry today that a mattress with this level of hardness will become a reality.

Comfort Scale Rating of 2 to 4
If you have no problem sleeping comfortably on your living room floor, and don’t wake up with aches and pains, a mattress with a Comfort Scale rating of 2 to 4 would be ideal for you. These mattresses would feel hard to very hard.

Comfort Scale Rating of 4.5 to 6.5
Mattresses in this category are great if you are in-between the other comfort ratings or your partner and you are on opposite sides of the Comfort Scale. Mattresses in this range make a great "compromise" mattress. If you just don’t have a preference, then a Comfort Scale rating of 4.5 to 6.5 is good for you.

Comfort Scale Rating of 7 to 9
Do you find yourself trying to increase the softness of your current mattress with a down feather mattress pad, or you just love the way a waterbed feels - then a mattress with a Comfort Scale rating of 7 to 9 would be ideal for you. These beds are soft! They are usually pillow tops, but some plush beds can be in this category too.

Comfort Scale Rating of 10
A mattress with a rating of 10 would also provide proper support for your back, but give you the impression of sleeping on a cloud. Obviously this is impossible. We also use the 10 rating as a reference point for the softest mattress you could possibly have.

Wood Type 101

There are numerous types of woods used when manufacturing furniture, from common to exotic, and hardwoods to softerwoods.  The wood is very important in regards to the look and durability of your furntiture

Hardwoods have a tighter packed grain which appears heavier than that of the softer woods.  Hardwoods derive from broadleaf trees like oak, maple, and cherry, Softwoods come from needle bearing trees like pine, and cedar.

Hardwoods are capable of enduring large amounts of wear and tear before you as opposed to softer wood furniture which is much more delicate.

Softer woods do offer some positive attributes.Pine and Cedar woods do not necessarily mean the furniture is cheap.  Pine is extremly succeptable to humidity.  Cedar has a sweet spicy smell that is appealing to most
while keeping insects away.

Leather Grains 101

Top Grain is the best leather available for furniture manufacturing.  It is derived from the uppermost layer of the hide, making it the most durable and beautiful.  Although this type of leather is most expensive, it ensures that the furniture if taken care of will last for years.

We have numerous products like the one to the right who are constructed from Top Grain 100% leather.  A complete set featuring Top Grain Leather generally retails for over $4000, buy it with us for less than $2,000.

Top Grain Leather Match is available, Leather match means the back and underside of the furniture is upholstered in a durable vinyl that is custom matched to be undetectable from the leather.  The vinyl feels and looks exactly like 100% leather.  All areas where your body touches is 100% leather.

There are a few options for Leather Match products on our catalog.  All of these products are still high end products since most of the sets are 100% leather.  A set like the one to the right would retail over $3000, buy it with us for less than $1500.

Bicast leather (also known as bycast leather or PU leather) is a
synthetic upholstery product consisting of a thick polyurethane layer applied
to a leather or reconstituted leather substrate.  The polyurethane layer does provide added durablity to the leather which is not as fine as Top Grain.

Bi Cast leather is very popular on all types of furniture, headboards on beds, chairs for a dinette set, or sofa sets.  All Bi Cast products we market are on the high end of the synthetic blend leathers.

Wood Veneers 101

A false perception assosicated with veneers and furniture is that anything that has veneer is
cheaply made.  This is not true.  The fact is, all furniture has veneers.  The determining factor
is the quality of the veneers used.  This is due to decades of furniture manufacturers and
retailer using soft woods and putting veneers over the softer wood making it not as durable.
90% of all the furniture we market is constructed with hardwood solids and the finest veneers found in the market today.

Drawer Construction 101

Identifying what type of drawer construction is the key to knowing if the furniture is high quality
or not.  The first thing to look for is how the wood is joined, english and frech dovetailing.

               English Dovetail                                          French Dovetail

Secondly, you will wont to look at the drawer glide system.  The set should have a nice sturdy
wood glide system or a roller glide system found in the nicer sets. Roller glide systems are the
same as your cabinet drawers.  These two things to look for should help you make a confident desicion.

Fabrics and Upholstery 101

Synthetic Fibers are a popular choice for upholstered furniture as Microfiber becomes more durable and capable of handling wear and tear.  Synthetic fabrics for decades have been known for being itchy and not
durable.  Microfiber is a soft suede like fabric that will stand the test of time if taken care of.

Organic Fibers have been used for thousands of years to upholster furniture.  Cotton, Denim, Silk, and Wool are the most common organic fibers used today.  Cotton, Denim, and Wool are all very durable fabrics and tough to beat.  Over thousands of years of research and development, organic fibers have continued to adjust to the times to provide very great fabric.

Blended Fibers combine the best of both worlds as it relates to fabric.  It allows you to enjoy the look of Organic fibers while enjoying the durability or Synthetic materials.  Blended fabrics are also friendly on consumers pockets allowing them to strech money further or stay under budget.

Furniture Care 101

Once you have chosen your furniture, it is equally important to take care of your furniture properly to ensure that it is in great shape for years to come.  Our Furniture Care guide can provide helpful tips so you get the most out of your furniture investment.

Wood Care 101

Follow these easy three steps to ensure your wood stays in good shape.  This will ensure you will get the most out of your furniture investment.  The worst thing you can do is ignore your furniture.

1.  Dust Your Furniture Regularly.  Dusting is the easiest thing you can do to prolong your wood longevity.  Dusting reduces allergens as well as conditions the surface of your wood.  You can also use a damp towel.

2.  Make repairs when their is structural damage.  If you do not fix
problems with your wood when noticed, it could result in further
structural damage.  If you stay on top of this issue, it will help keep your wood furniture functional.

3.  Climate Control.  Avoid keeping any piece of wood in direct sunlight for it will bleach the finish.   Maintain your humidity level in your home for it will warp the wood and damage the finish.

Upholstery Care 101

Upholstered Furniture looks beautiful if maintained efficiently, if not, it can become dingy and look old quickly.  Here are a few tips to help you keep your upholstered furniture looking brand new.

1.  Once a stain is noticed, clean it As Soon As Possible.  Fabrics tend to absorb anything making it hard to clean a stain if not treated quickly.  This is the most important step.

2.  Bring in a professional to clean your furniture periodically.  Base this step on the overall traffic on the fabrics.  It is best not to use wet cleaning systems to achieve your results for they can diminish the value of the fabric and the cusions fillers could be damaged.

3.  Clean your upholstered furniture regularly.  Pet hair and various other things can hurt the appearance of your furniture if not cleaned regularly.  A simple shop vac, vacuum, or dust buster does a great job in removing dirt, pet hair, and other debris your upholstered furniture might collect.

Leather Care 101

Leather needs light maintenance to keep it looking nice.  You can simply clean your leather by wiping away dust with a damp cloth weekly as well as applying a leather conditioner to the leather every three months to ensure a great comfortable finish on your leather.  Leather, if not kept clean can deteriorate quickly.  Below is a picture of what a leather sofa looks like treated and not treated.
